Baixa Castelo Apartments: History, identity, comfort
||Rua dos Fanqueiros, 136 – 1100-232 Lisboa
When we visit a city, we inevitably look for places that instantly become authentic postcards, for the beauty they have, but also for their life, the dynamics and the history they keep. The Baixa Castelo apartments are precisely located in one of those rare places where every nook and cranny is worth a second look. Come and be stunned by the charms of Lisbon’s unforgettable historic area.
This ancient building, fully integrated into the historic architectural landscape of Downtown Pombalina, brings together all the conditions to provide you with a comfortable and memorable stay. Be enchanted by this beautiful moving painting!
The building that houses the Baixa Castelo apartments is distinguished by the way in which it still preserves the identity traits that characterize the aesthetics of the Marquês de Pombal era, the statesman responsible for the reconstruction of downtown Lisbon – or Downtown Pombalina, as it is known – after the 1755 earthquake. Signs of this are, for example, the magnificent tiles on its facade, originating in the 18th century, and the ground floor built in solid stone, or the metric of the windows.
The preservation of these centuries of history is combined here with the best and most modern conditions of comfort, so that you can enjoy a stay full of memorable moments. Thus, the Baixa Castelo apartments stand out for the timeless elegance of their decoration, combined with an intimate atmosphere that will make you feel at home.
The accommodations have free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, dining table, desk, seating area, flat-screen TV, daily cleaning services, an access code and automatic check-in system, so you don’t have to rely on anybody for access to your apartment. The building also has a supermarket on its ground floor, allowing guests to shop whenever they need it.
Baixa Castelo apartments, from Lisbon Serviced Apartments, await your visit. Come and immerse yourself in the beauty of this living painting that is the beating heart of the city of Lisbon!

These spacious and charming apartments have been equipped with everything you need for your stay. You can count on a kitchenette equipped with a hob, dishwasher, washer and dryer, oven, fridge, kettle, toaster, coffee machine and all of the necessary utensils for the preparation of light meals.

Stroll through Lisbon’s soul
It is not by chance that Lisbon has been, in recent years, in fashion. It is a mandatory destination in the passport of those who like to visit cities full of light, history and beauty. The Baixa Castelo apartments, in the heart of Downtown Pombalina, offer privileged access to some of the most unmissable tourist spots in the city.
The accommodation is just a few minutes’ walk away from iconic attractions such as the Sé da Catedral, a medieval cathedral from the 12th century; the Graça viewpoint, from where you will have a stunning view of the metropolis with the Tagus River in the background; Chiado, a cosmopolitan centre where many of the trendiest shops and restaurants are concentrated; or, of course, the Castle of São Jorge, which, from the top of the hill, has guarded the city since the 11th century. Plenty to get lost in!
The charm of Rua Augusta
All Lisboners have walked the charismatic Portuguese sidewalk that stretches from Praça do Rossio to Praça do Comércio, which is bathed by the Tagus River, framed here by the Cais das Colunas. We are talking about the majestic Rua Augusta, one of the most famous arteries in the city, of which there are good reasons!
Few know this curiosity, but its full name is Rua da Augusta Figura do Rei, honouring D. José I, the monarch portrayed in the grand equestrian statue of Praça do Comércio. Closed to traffic and always full of liveliness – not least because it is often occupied by artists from all areas – this is one of Lisbon’s main ‘business cards’.
The buildings that flank this artery still retain the typical architectural style of the 18th century, when they were rebuilt, after the great earthquake of 1755. Here, you will have an encounter with tradition. Let yourself be transported to another time.
Stores with memory
In the downtown Chiado area, many commercial spaces hold memories of the past. There are shops with many decades of life, whose traditional products are part of the material, historical and cultural heritage of the city. Believe me, it is worth discovering them!
Casa Macário, for example, is one of those traditional commercial spaces where you can travel back in time. Founded in 1913, at Rua Augusta, since then it has dedicated itself to chocolates, coffees, teas and drinks. At the entrance, you will find a sign with a peculiar request: “Please don’t clean the bottles”, (the dust that covers the bottles is synonymous with longevity), the older the wine, the better. No wonder, therefore, that this is one of the most referenced places to buy the famous Port wine.
